When jazz legend Dr. Lonnie Smith saw Leonieke perform at just 10 years old, he famously declared, “You’ve been here before!” and gifted her a Hammond organ—a remarkable beginning to what has become an extraordinary career. By age 11, she had already earned an International Women in Jazz award, been featured on WBGO, and recorded with legendary engineer Rudy Van Gelder alongside Miles Davis drummer Jimmy Cobb.

TOMOKO OHNO- THE ALL THAT JAZZ SUMMER SERIES
Born in Tokyo, Tomoko Ohno began playing piano at age four and was already performing professionally on Japan’s jazz scene as a teenager. After moving to the United States to study jazz at William Paterson University, she quickly established herself as one of today’s most accomplished jazz pianists, sharing the stage with legends including Wynton Marsalis, Benny Golson, Joe Henderson, Slide Hampton, and Houston Person. A celebrated bandleader and recording artist, Ohno has performed at Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, Birdland, and the Blue Note, and has released numerous acclaimed albums throughout her international career. Whether leading her own ensemble or collaborating with some of jazz’s greatest musicians, her performances are marked by dazzling technique, lyrical artistry, and a joyful spirit that make every concert an unforgettable experience.
